Most of The Folk have dark eyes, but a few have blue eyes, like the Trolls from whom the ancestors seized the land long ago. Troll eyes, unlucky eyes. Now, helped by plague, The Beasts are wiping out The Folk, taking the land for their own. The situation is dire, and legend says that Folk with troll eyes can go through the passage grave to the land of the dead and return with advice and help.

The first part of the game is Neolithic realism, and you help evoke your threatened town, and the place of the troll eyed in it. It is a mix of storytelling and scene based roleplaying. The second part is exploration under time pressure in the land of the dead, a dark, magical mirror image of the land of the living. Here, you can use a dice mechanic to try to take control of the fiction, to help the troll eyed find what they seek before they are transformed to the point where they can never return to the land of the living.

Troll eyes is a disturbing fantasy based on Denmark of 5.000 years ago.

Player types:

You want a tragedy where you fight to the last for all that you hold dear, even knowing that you cannot win. You are OK with getting a lot of information that you get to use in play, but will not be held to account for. And it will be your job to drive the game forward under pressure.

Gamemaster type:

At the outset of the game, you communicate a strange culture for relatable characters to live in, and take the players through a tight sequence leading to the land of the dead. Then, you take charge of a grim sandbox with a lot of NPC’s, in which the players can explore the tragedy of their people.
