In Door and Back Again, you are cast in the role of carpenters contracted with repairing doors for hobbits who have had extraordinarily bad, and recent, door-luck. The holes in their doors need patching up and several of the decorative elements that previously adorned them are missing! Can you restore these intricate doors to their former glory?
Draw cards that represent polyomino tiles that you use to repair and decorate doors. Try and find the best combination of cards to play each turn as you progress towards reconstructing the small folks entrances according to your vision. Never wait your turn as you play simultaneously in a relaxing and friendly puzzle game!
Each round you get 2 actions. The actions in the game are simple, but together they present you with tactical trade-offs to either finish early and move on to the next door, or to maximize your score and make up for the slower pace.
The main action allows you to play a plank or decoration card, which will allow you to place a specific plank or decoration tile on your door. Planks are used to repair the hole, and decorations are used to make it look nice and score bonus points. The satisfaction of getting just the right plank to finish your door, or drawing the perfect decoration to place in the space in between are central parts of this game’s experience.
Score points by placing planks to repair your door, and get lots of points if you manage to repair the door fully. Then engage in a dual-layer decoration puzzle where the perfect decoration can both net you a lot of points and bring some creative flavour to your woodworking!
When you consider yourself done with a door, you may turn it in for points and draw a new one. Whenever a player reaches a set number of points, the game ends and the player with the most points wins!
(You will also get “comfort potatoes” during the game - please don’t eat them)
