In Village Pride, you are in charge of one section of your village’s pride parade.

You start the game with three Parade Cards in hand, and each turn you either add one of them to your parade in front of you or give the card to another player. Adding a card to your parade gives you more colours and symbols to work with and often allows you to move a card you’ve already placed. Giving a card away on the other hand lets you use the card’s special action. These include searching the deck for certain cards and making more complicated re-arrangements of your parade.

The core mechanics are pattern building and set collection. Points are scored by completing Objectives of 2-3 colours and/or symbols placed in specific orders, with the cards in your parade. There are four types of Objectives that each give points in a different way.

The Objectives available change often as other players complete and take them and you will need to use your cards and their effects smartly in order to claim as many as you can on your turn. That said, there is also an element of chance to the game, as you may be lucky and complete new Objectives simply due to how your parade was already arranged.

Village Pride is a game where you are mostly working on your own project. You give cards to other players in order to use more powerful actions, and you will be working towards the same available Objectives, but this is not a game where you try to “mess” with each other. The vibe is one of friendly competition where you will have to provide opponents with cards in order to optimise your own parade.

If you like games like Sagrada or Shifting Stones, you might also like Village Pride.
